Blackened BARRA - Proper Man Meal!

I'm totally on a fish bender right now. A 'fish mish' if you will! I don't know what's behind it but with such incredible access to seafood in Australia, I invite you to join me by trying this recipe.

This one, Blackened Cajun Fish, I first came across when I was in the Caribbean two years ago on an island called Turks and Caicos. Being an island and having a ready supply of fresh seafood, blackened fish was the speciality.

Blackening seasoning gives a spicy, smokey favour to food and can be used on any meat or vegetables. The recipe may vary between cooks but generally contains thyme, oregano, onion and garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper and salt.

I find cooking with a cast iron skillet on medium to high heat gives best results, creating an outer spicy crust and a deliciously, tender and juicy centre. Ohhhh man, I get mouth-waters just thinking about this. Topped with a squirt of fresh lime and paired with some brown or wild rice, there is simply nothing better.

Once you've made up the blackening seasoning, feel free to store the excess for later. Fish one night, steak the next...

Panko-Crusted Honey Mustard Salmon

So when your mate puts on you at the gym that he's very hungry and has nothing to eat, what do you do? Of course, you offer him dinner at your pad - with one condition: he must cook.

So in this simple but tasty recipe, I've got hold of my buddy Keil and commissioned him to whip up dinner for the two of us. Like a dancer with two left feet, his cooking skills are moderate at best. But when you cook in JS's kitchen, shit goes down!

Salmon has got to be my favourite fish. It's proper BANG for the buck. High in both protein and heart-healthy unsaturated fats, it's muscle and brain food. And it's so versatile - this recipe is just the start of my salmon collection!

Enjoy... J

My inspiration for this recipe is an AWESOME cafe in Newcastle, Australia called Talulah Bar where I recently had breakfast and after tasting their one, I came up with my own take on it! Here you go!

High in heart healthy fats and protein, put simply, you need this in your life!

Why 'Weight' For Good Sleep?

In my eBook, 'The 14 Non-Diet Fat Loss Hacks', I discussed how being tired and under-slept can cause you to gain weight. The disturbance to both our physiology and psychology when we are fatigued often leads to us craving high-energy junk foods and feeling super-sluggish. This is the perfect recipe for weight gain and all the associated lifestyle conditions that flow from there. Yep, diabetes, heart disease, arthritis and many more.

But it turns out that that tiredness not only causes weight gain and a bursting belly, but the reverse it also true. Weight gain actually causes tiredness, more specifically, fatigue directly due to poorer sleep. That's a classic definition of a vicious cycle.

Habits of Health: 30 Days To Fixed Ways

I am reading a brilliant book at the moment by a bloke named Hal Elrod. Called 'The Miracle Morning', this book has sold countless copies and I know why - it's pure gold!

As the title of the book suggests, The Miracle Morning is about setting positive life habits that are the precursors to hitting huge life goals. Hal's convincing argument is that it starts with rising early in the morning and on your own time, not five minutes before you need to be out the door for work.

I have long believed in and practiced this idea myself and reading this book really reinforced the value of the behaviour for me. There's a certain sense of pride and motivation that comes from knowing that you've already smashed a gym session, had two showers (before and after gym) and powered through breakfast while the tired majority are halfway through their snooze between alarms three and four.

But of all the gold nuggets in this book, one specific suggestion stood out to me: how to create habits.
